Dont judge the book by its cover

That’s what I really don’t like with many pinoys today, when we hear it’s Philippine-made, we judge quickly.

Follow up:

Don’t get me wrong here, I also do that especially in gaming, but I myself was proven wrong.. in fact, pinoys are even more matured than the other races in the world (at least in gaming).

Another example, we always judge pinoys as “scammers”, when I found out that those Pinoy who scam other people are not even at the tip of the other scammer-people in the world, and yet, here we are, we judge our fellow pinoys too quickly.

The way we judge our fellow citizens has already turned into stereotyping.

“Ah it’s Filipino made, it’s ugly and lacks substance.”
“Philippine World of Warcraft? No way!! It will ruin the game!”
“Aww, it’s this actor and this actress, they’re this and that.”

See my point here?
Do you all see and/or view our country and its citizens as hopeless? Why? If other countries were able to “reach” a point wherein we Pinoys start to watch their shows (and buy their products), how much more us Pinoys when we boast in the world that we are intelligent and wise, and that we can do anything?

Someone said in another similar discussion that “at least in other countries they are now creating their own [shows]”. My answer is simple and this goes to everyone else… Before those countries reached that moment or period of their industry’s development, they went through the same thing as we are going through today (and vice versa).

Example. Remember when Pinoy Entertainment loves to “dance and sing” in the teleseryes or movies? Just take a look, we don’t do that anymore. But look at Bollywood, we laugh when we see them dancing and singing, why? Coz deep inside us, we know that we once created similar movies and teleseryes.

See? We Pinoys improved. Look at Indonesia too. They are going through the same steps to improvement – from their government to their different industries. But in the Philippines we already went through those steps.

Now, we are judging GMA for the three shows they are going to air this first quarter of 2007, we are already judging them when we have seen only the teaser trailers?!! Let GMA air those three shows first before we judge them, before we say that “it sucks”, “we lost faith with the Philippine entertainment industry”, etc. Watch it first, “don’t judge the book by its cover“, stop stereotyping and thinking that we are still the same like the yester-decades. Our entertainment industry is moving forward, GMA alone has improved over the years. Even when it comes to translation and dubbing of anime shows and asianovelas, GMA and ABS-CBN both improved these past few years. But until now many still judge them negatively as if they haven’t improved a little. See, it is stereotyping. We lost faith already. We already see our motherland as hopeless, with no future. Why are we like that? Or why are you like that? It’s really sad, very very sad. Pinoys…

Pinoys can continue to improve and we are only going through the same stages and the same steps the other countries went through, but the major difference? Majority of the Filipino people around the world do not support the country’s road to improvement, instead, many Filipinos easily dismiss most (if not everything) of the Filipino steps to improvement.

Read this: We can’t improve overnight. It is impossible for any industry to simply become “Hollywood” the next sunrise.

Oh, if you are a gamer and you’ve been exposed to countless of communities in the international level, this is what they are going to tell you: “If you don’t like it, then don’t watch or better yet, do it yourself.”

Filipinos, instead of moving forward, we are moving backwards. Instead of supporting those people who are doing something to improve our country, we go against them and criticize them for as long as we want. No wonder our neighboring countries surpassed the Philippines. I can’t agree more with the Korean tourists who said that they are “sad to see the Philippines like it is now. Our country (Korea) improved because we looked up to the Philippines. What happened to this country?”

Sigh…

Lupin, Super Twins and Asian Treasure, be it good or bad, its only one step to improvement. If we have nothing better to say to our country’s attempts, we better keep our mouths shut.

Ok… just so you know, I don’t like the title “Super Twins”. I also don’t like shows without a “substance”. I don’t like to see another “redo”. I don’t want to watch another very stupid flying scenes and fight scenes. But I still support the Philippine Entertainment Industry, especially GMA (and HERO TV for dubbing) because they really improved over the years. They learn from their past shows and I can really see that they are experimenting with lots of stuff and styles (GMA primetime shows if you haven’t noticed it until now).

Do I watch these shows? Yes. Regularly? No. Why not? Well, example Sugo and Captain Barbell, I don’t like it when they start to lengthen the series for the sake of “enjoying the high ratings”, because that’s when their writers start to create stupid story arcs. I only watched a few Atlantika episodes because most of the episodes so-far were just the old-school “drama”, for me, Atlantika is just a sci-fi drama.

I watched almost all of the episodes of Majika, Encantadia and Etheria. And I don’t like watching most Pinoy movies. In other words, I’m just like you. I am also looking for a “substance”, and sometimes the actors and actresses matter to me (but most of the time I don’t really care).

So don’t get me wrong here. I just want you all to know that we should instead start to support our country and industries. It is fine to criticize, in fact, how can we improve if no one will criticize us? But before we start criticizing, be sure we’ve watched most of the episodes (if not all). Again:

Don’t judge the book by its cover.

There is an UPDATE about the casts, tentative airing of the shows, and further confirmation of which “Lupin” GMA’s show entitled simply as Lupin we are talking about.
