Time for a Charter Change?

Time for a Charter Change?

Once again, me and my colleagues discussed about politics and the Philippine 1987 Constitution. I am surprised however that many of those who were once not in favor of a charter change or chacha are now in favor of it. The latest social survey is indeed correct, the number of Filipinos now favoring chacha is growing.

But...

[More:]

This data is being interpreted and/or generalized by some groups as "in-favor of the People's Initiative". We need a completely separate survey for this one because not everyone who is in favor of chacha is rooting for the People's Initiative. Me and my colleagues and many of our friends who are in favor of chacha are not in favor of the People's Initiative which the Sigaw ng Bayan is pushing for.

We agree to many but not all of the points of the Sigaw ng Bayan group but we do not agree with the People's Initiative and methods. Maybe "the People" need more transparency behind the Sigaw ng Bayan and the People's Initiative, for all we know, it is the same tactic and strategy the Marcoses did when they asked for a charter change - People's Initiative and the methods and objectives. Why is or are they following the same path? That we don't know. For one, we don't even agree that the People's Initiative is the "sigaw ng bayan". If it is, then why is it that those are also in favor of charter change do not support the People's Initiative? True it is just a name, then that means anyone can start their own organization and call it "the Voice of Planet Earth" and this group will push for a "Wiping of Israel".

But enough of that, as I am not against the group "Sigaw ng Bayan" but rather to the "People's Initiative". For us, Filipinos who are being mis-labeled as supporters of the People's Initiative, we are not in agreement with it but we believe it is time for a charter change. I live in Makati City and our clan never signed the signature campaign of the People's Initiative movement. Last I read, the court is already counter-checking the signatures they gathered from Makati, the last area where there are a majority of voters (and non-voters for that matter) who are not in favor of the People's Initiative.

Good Luck to all and God Bless the Philippines ^_^
